eBay Suffering New Buyer Scams

In the last
twelve
months eBay has been working hard to make the service more friendly and
safer, now a new scam.
Sadly and very much a reflection on society today. The ugly side of
human nature and behaviour is again abusing the community with the
latest buyer scam on eBay. Sellers on eBay are already having a really
rough time and many businesses have closed on eBay in the past 12 to 18
months as sellers battle against constant scams and demands by
customers exploiting a sellers performance and then threaten the seller
if the scam buyers demands are not met.
The most recent scam is buyers ask to collect goods from sellers, pay
cash and then claim they have not received the goods, or in fact pay
via
pay pal and claim back for non receipt of goods. Very sadly with these
criminals for that is what they are, they take this very low moral
outlook and treat business as the enemy and with an attitude that these
sellers and many small businesses can afford being ripped off by these
opportunists.
Many businesses today are struggling to make ends meet. Most businesses
if lucky are grossing around a small and meagre 10% profit. So when the
criminal rips off a seller for the odd £10.00 of goods that means
the seller has to turnover another £100.00 of goods to recoup the
£10.00 stolen. When you take these sums and figures over the
course of a year it soon mounts up and the owner and seller soon
realizes after paying out staff, fee's and time to upload and sell
products. Its just not worth the worry, stress and aggravation that
goes with it.
For the past 12 to 18 months eBay has been investing a great deal into
Trust and Safety. The staff and management are passionate about making
ebay a fun place for all the family to enjoy. This also extends to
offer opportunity to small and medium business.
But a series of scams that are being used by professional shoppers who
are nothing other than criminals is taking its toll.
Scams include:-
Items not as described, where the buyer will threaten and insist on the
item not being right from a picture image that is positioned in a way
that does not feature all the product.
Goods not received, where sellers are threatened again with negative
feedback unless another item is sent, or a refund issued.
Collection of goods and then the buyer claiming non receipt of items.
Another great hindrance now is with the Royal Mail, where a senior
manager of 30 years has informed us that 90% of businesses are now
being exposed to theft, damage and losses in the Royal Mail since they
have been laying off existing staff and recruiting from Eastern
European Employment Agencies based in the UK, a far cheaper labour work
force.
